2 nights for Lake Bled and Ljubljana... Enough time?

Hi,

We have traveled extensively around Austria the last 16 years. We are thinking that during our Ramsau am Dachstein stay in late August this year, we'd head to Lake Bled for 2 nights. Figure we should arrive by 1pm. and have the remainder of the day. Then a full day and night and then the morning of our departure back to Ramsau am Dachstein. We're not looking to sightsee too much, just see the Lake Bled area and have dinner and stroll Ljubljana in the evening and at night. Relaxing basically.

Question, is this enough time?
Worth the 2.5 hour drive each way for 2 nights?
Will it different enough from Austria to warrant the short trip?

Thank you for any and all opinions and advice. If there's a B&B or Pension style place in Lake Bled you can recommend, we'd appreciate it.

I too am interested in the answer to this question. Trying to put together an itinerary for Slovenia and Austria -- experienced with Austria, but not sure where to spend my time this summer. I hope some folks will stop by and share some thoughts...

Lake Bled is beautiful. I think it would be worth driving 2.5 hours to spend a couple of nights there.

The drive to Ljubljana is about 45 minutes, so you could go there for one of the two evenings you'll have in Slovenia.

There are several other things to see in the immediate vicinity of Lake Bled. One is Bohinj, another lake nearby that is surrounded by some gorgeous mountain scenery, about 1/2 hour drive from Bled. Another is Vintgar Gorge, a very short drive from Bled. And on the way to Ljubljana, you should stop in Radovljica and check out the beekeeping museum.

There is a back-road route between Ljubljana and Bled that takes you through breathtakingly beautiful scenery, but I'm already giving you too much to do in the short time you'll have.

Thank you Lane.

We're not trying to see a lot, so hopefully we can enjoy the little we do see. Figure spend our arrival day and night in Lake Bled. Next day, see Bohinj lake, and then take a leisurely drive to Ljubljana for an early dinner and stroll around town and then coffee at an outdoor cafe before heading back to Lake Bled. Next day walk around Lake Bled a bit and head back to Ramsau am Dachstein/Schladming.

Paul, that sounds like a good plan.

Be sure to do the drive from Bohinj to Ljubljana on the mountain route that will take you through Železniki and Škofja Loka. The first half of that drive will take you through some breathtaking scenery. You can return to Bled on the E61.

For dinner in Ljubljana, check out Julija. Ate there twice, and loved it both times.

Sounds like a good plan, Lane. We just looked at the restaurant and it looks wonderful. Thank you. We're also looking at the Pension Pletna for our 2 nights.

we were staying at Bled Turist farm about 1.5 miles out of town, we walked into town, around the lake, up the hill to castle, and back to the turist farm.....about 10 miles total. definitely take the boat out to the island,,,,, gorgeous, gorgeous. also, the noon meal at the top of the castle with wine, was the most beautiful and tasty meal of the whole trip.

We stayed in Bled for 3 nights on our trip last May so we would have 2 full days to explore.

We loved Penzion Berc - minutes walk to the lake path and the walk into the town with a wonderful German music serenade breakfast ! They had free bikes for us to ride around the Lake and they gave us a map with a dozen hikes around the area.

We hiked the Vintner Gorge - just beautiful - and hiked up to the Castle on the Hill. We also drove to Lake Bohinj and hiked to the Slap Savica Falls. And hiked a half day in Pokljuska Soteska.

Eat the Pesto Risotto and Sea Bass at Osterija Peglez'n right on the lake, just a few minutes walk from Penzion Berc. Enjoy coffee at Smon Bakery in town.
