2 days before starting Best of Adriatic Tour? What to do in Slovenia?

We are going on our first RS tour ever, the best of the Adriatic and have a couple days before the trip. I don't want to overlap too much with the Best of Adriatic Tour but there are a few areas we may want more time.

Can anyone give me some feedback on my suggestions? I am unclear if the Best of Adriatic has enough time in Bled for us. We are hoping to go to Vintgar Gorge, visit the church. I am also unclear if the scenic drive of the Julian Alps (the one mentioned in the guidebook) is mostly covered with the Best of Adriatic Tour or if I should consider that as a full day trip from Bled.

May 16th I imagine we will be tired but was thinking of renting a car and driving to Lake Bled. Will have a leisurely time to walk around the lake. night in Bled
Sunday May 17th Visit the Vintgar Gorge, Lake Bohinj, or consider the big scenic drive around the Julian Alps that is mentioned in the guidebook or consider driving the Logarska Dolina area mentioned in the gudiebook night in Bled
Monday May 18 drive to visit Skocjan Caves and Predjama Castle or Postijana cave and Predjama Castle. Not interested in the Lipica stud farm. return the car rental and spend night at the hotel in LJU where the tour starts.
May 19th need to be in LJU for the tour at 4pm

Any thoughts? Is May even good weather for Bled ? How much overlap is it compared to the guided tour.

Renting the car isn’t the worst idea. Ljubljana airport is basically halfway between Bled and Ljubljana, so it’s an easy drive. It’s not like you’re driving two hours somewhere. Assuming you arrive in the morning, you can get a lot done on the 16th. You’d have plenty on time to relax around Bled, see Vintgar and then some if you stay the night.

I would do one of the caves on the 18th, maybe include a stop in Triglav before heading south. Stay in Ljubljana the night of the 18th, so you’ve got all day to just kick around Ljubljana before the tour starts. Evenings in Ljubljana are just terrific. I’m definitely of the opinion that any time you can add to Ljubljana the better.

No clue of flight times yet so not sure how much time I will have. Do you feel that LJU (just the city) deserves more time than the day tour plus one day mostly on our own.

I think 2 days and 2 nights in Ljubljana is the minimum. You’ll see any “sights” you like in that time. But after two trips there, I still left wishing I had another day or two. It’s just a thoroughly enjoyable town.

TBH, I day tripped to Bled and felt like that was enough for me, but I didn’t get to see Vintgar Gorge either. I like your plan if you go straight to Bled, unwind, have a swim/hike and see Vintgar (not necessarily in that order.) That might sound like a lot on arrival, but that’s good for jet lag. I think a trip to a cave is also a good way to maximize your trip. That said, if this all does feel like to much, I’m confident you won’t regret dialing back and just spending the extra time in Ljubljana.
