I'm planning a trip to Slovakia for next summer and want to stay in Poprad. I know, I know, Vysoké Tatry is much nicer--and we have stayed there in the past. I especially love Starý Smokovec. But Poprad will be much more convenient for the people we want to visit and for access to train and bus travel (or for renting a car if we decide to be that brave). Can anyone recommend a hotel or penzion? Or at least the best area to stay in? I was thinking of either someplace in Spišská Sobota or what I think is the central square area (just south of the river and route 66), e.g., Hotel TatraMonti. We are not waterpark/spa people, so we don't need AquaCity, and we eat out on vacation, we don't cook, so walking distance to eateries is important.
How about the historical Hotel Europa next to the train station? Any reviews?
If time allows, I would highly recommend driving Route 66 across the Tatras to visit Zakopane. Or take FlixBus, if you’d rather not drive. The drive is stunning. Zakopane can fill a day or a week with things to do. Along the way is the hike to Morskie Oko on the Polish side of the mountains. I love that area of Slovakia/Poland in the high Tatras.
Hey come to Portland travel group sometime. We meet every third Saturday at 10am at Panera Bread on Nyberg rd. In Tigard with an occasional diversion (Posted here under travel groups every month.)
Sorry, I don’t have Poprad hotel suggestions. 🤷♀️ I’ve only traveled through Poprad between Zakopane and Kosice.
thenosbigs I live three hours from Portland, so don't get there often.
