What to see & do in Košice

My previous post asking about my itinerary in September was apparently too complicated to receive any responses, so I'm starting over with some specific questions. First up, what might be some reasons to visit Košice for a few days? I would like to visit The Museum of Emigration from Slovakia to North America (www.kasigarda.sk), about an hour’s drive from Košice, in Ťahyňa. But other than that, the main places of interest seem to be the old town, the fountain, the museum with the horde of gold coins, and the cathedral. If I go to Košice, I would check those out, but they wouldn't otherwise be a priority for me. Any other ideas? I'm particularly interested in Slovak history and culture. Thanks for any insight--it's hard to find information on this country.

Michelle, I am no help since I had to cancel my planned trip to Kocise in October without ever fleshing out an itinerary.

But I bookedmarked some posts here on the forum - and you may not have seen this late response to a different question.

Wayne, if you have not passed it , Orava Castle is one not to miss. Also Trencin Castle. There is a great recreated village in Martin. There might be special hours in the winter. Also the ice caves near Presov. Go to Slovakspector for more travel information.
Have fun.
Steve

Steve has posted some other good stuff in the area and it would be worth messaging him. I also came across a really good TripAdvisor trip report and have now lost the link, but will look more - I want it for the time I DO get there! At this point all I have left is a first stop at the Visitor’s Center - apparently there is a very good walking tour.

But I am gonna say you may be one of the people on the forum most traveled in Slovakia!

Thanks TexasTravelmom. Mr. É, it wasn’t me leaving in 2 days—we’re not leaving until Sept. 2024. Maybe it was wtaylor67 you are thinking of. I think I just wrote too much, typical for me LOL, and people’s eyes understandably glazed over.

Ok, I found the blog.

It may be of no interest to you, but it was quite a trip through Slovakia - the writer is Dutch but my Chrome browser translates it for me. They went to places I don’t read about. Anyway, at least I saved the link this time…. 🤣

TexasTravelmom, that blog was really interesting. Thank you. They did some not-typical-tourist things. And their description of the Eastern Slovakia Museum in Košice showed it was more than just the horde of gold, and worth a visit.
