Hi!
My grandmother was born and raised in Osturna before her journey to the United States before 1919. I would like to stay one night in the area to get the feel of her surroundings but not sure how to navigate the area and enjoy the region. We will drop off our rental car in Poprad the next day ( will have picked it up in Poprad as well ). Any villages close by to visit or eat . Looking for any insight of what we can accomplish. I hate to drive there and drive out without knowing what is ahead or behind as I understand it is a narrow road leading into the village. Thanks! Bathroom break places are helpful as well.

My maternal grandparents also came from Slovakia around that same time. In June we visited the country and did a custom tour with Best Slovakia Tours. We were able to visit the town where my grandparents came from and discovered several other relative in the cemetery. They also have a Professional Genealogist on staff who will see if you still have relatives in the area and arrange a meeting with them if this interest you.

Actually my sister visited there many years back and did arrange a meeting with a relative. I have not yet contacted anyone there. Not sure they speak English. :) I plan to visit the church. Thank you.

You are close to Spiss castle and Levoca. Both great stops. Also Stara Lubovna. It has another beautiful castle with a traditional village next door. If you really want to be adventurous there are 2hr rafting trips on the Slovak / Polish border. Have fun.

Among my favorite hotels in the world is tgr Kempinski High Tatras nearby. Its on a stunning Lake Strbske Pleso. Get me within 200km and its where I will demand to spend tge night. I think you have to drive very near the cable car at Lomnický štít. Crazy spectacular views. Don't know where you are getting the car, but if Bratislava, then thr two Banska towns are worth a stop.
