Tatra Mountains

I’m travelling from Budapest to krakow in late October and looking at stopping through and staying some nights in the Tatra Mountains.
Firstly will the walking trails around the area be open or starting to shut for winter and secondly where is a good place to base for the stay.

I’ve heard of Poprad, zdiar and Štrbské Pleso. But any one who has travelled here if they have recommendations or what is easier for seeing nature, lakes mountains etc that’s be good

I’m in the High Tatras right now. We are staying in Tatranská Lomnica. This town has several restaurants and some good hotels. Notably the Hotel Lomnica and Grand Hotel Praha. Lomnica is slightly more expensive but exceptional. Grand Hotel is more historic but also lovely and boasts a nice infinity pool overlooking the mountains.

We hiked a trail from the Grand Hotel to Charak pri Zelenom plese. A nice cabin on the edge of a green lake deep in the Tatra Mountains. Took about 2.5 hours each way but very scenic. All in all, we have enjoyed our time in Tatranská Lomnica and would recommend it.

We go to Štrbské Pleso from time to time for fly fishing. The Kempinski is one of the worlds great hotels in our opinion. And, since its a ski area, the rates are reasonable off season (summer).

The first time we stayed because i saw this photo: https://awscloudfront.kempinski.com/34357182/zion-spa-luxury.jpg;width=1905;height=794;mode=crop;anchor=middlecenter;autorotate=true;quality=90;scale=both;progressive=true;encoder=freeimage

When we got there, it was better.

In the photo you can see a sort of triangular shaped building. Its another hotel on the opposite side of the lake. I visited out of curiosity. Also very nice and a bit less expensive.
