In June we spent 2 weeks in Slovakia, which we found incredibly interesting. We saw very few tourists except in the centre of Bratislava which were largely from the river cruise boats. In Bratislava we spent 2 days visiting 3 different art museums and wandering the city. Afterwards we had arranged a private tour with Best Slovakia Tours to tour around the country. A few highlights that we visited are the Small Carpathian Wine Route, Modra Ceramics, multiple UNESCO sites, with Cicmany village being my favourite, the High Tatra Mountains and Belianska Cave. We felt that the most interesting and enjoyable parts of the country were outside of Bratislava.
Thanks! With Slovakia still on my list, I’d really love to have a more detailed report about your trip: what cities you stayed in, did you choose locations or did the company, what order you went in, how you found the company, and more!
I found several companies through google and emailed each. Based upon the responses I chose this company. Where we went was based largely on the recommendations of Peter that included the highlights of the country with a few specific changes made by myself after reviewing their website. I think we went back and forth a few times before settling on the final itinerary. We started in Bratislava, then Banska Bystrica, Kosice, Bardejov, the High Tatras, Zilina and back to Bratislava. At that point, they planned everything for us. I must admit, it was one of the best tours we have ever taken
I am glad you had a good trip. Slovakia is still one of the best kept secrets of Europe. As you found out you need to go past Bratislava to see the real beauty. We just returned from there and we find new and interesting things to see every trip.
Thanks for the reply! I had to cancel plans for a trip once and need to get Slovakia back in the line up - maybe in 2028!
