Ever Visit Kremnica, Slovakia?

I wonder if any Rickniks have visited Kremnica, Slovakia? (Kremnitz in German.) What are your impressions and what did you do? Did you like it?

My maternal grandparents, who were born and raised in Kremica when it was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, left in 1920 for Chicago. It's a town of about 5,000 people famous for its gold mines. I imagine my ancestors were miners. I am planning a Central Europe visit.

Yes we toured an old gold mine there. Very interesting. They have a mint there. It's a beautiful old village. Worth the stop.

Thanks, gw52fire. I wonder if my ancestors labored in that gold mine!

My guess is probably. A lot of Slovaks were miners when they came to the US. We are in Eastern Pa. My wifes Slovak grandparents worked in the coal mines in Western Pa. Plan on spending the day there. If you get to Martin, I encourage you to visit the Slovak Village there. Its on the south side of the town. and always Orava Castle.

Enjoy your trip.
