Bratislava - Worth at least a night's stay.

When we planned our 20 night trip, most (Reddit and RS.com) recommended that we limit our Bratislava visit to just a day trip from Vienna.

I am glad we stayed at least one night in this underappreciated city. The Bratislava Castle is certainly does not compare to Schonnbrunn in Vienna, but the ticket is only €7 and that also gives you admission to all the other museums in Bratislava. The food and drink is about 30% less compared to Vienna. Lots of people just eating, drinking and having a good time. The locals were so friendly.

We stayed at the VIP Apartments by St. Michael's Gate in the Old Town. We saved about $40 per night over another hotel night stay in Vienna.

I would have liked to have stayed longer.

Thanks for your report. I've wanted to go to Bratislava, and I'd love to do a return trip to Vienna.

Yes, funpig! We stayed in Bratislava for three days in the fall of 2014. Loved it. Beautiful small city, lots of friendly people, and the castle is high atop the hill, giving great views of the surrounding area.

We just did a day trip from Vienna last week. While we are glad we went, we didn’t fall in love and feel it’s worth a few hours, but no more for us.

Thank you so much for this. We have been trying to decide if we will do a day trip from Vienna or an overnight, and this helps. We are leaning towards an overnight.

Do you have any other suggestions for Bratislava?

One suggestion is the Devin Castle. They had a very good but small exhibit on escaping from that area during communism. Its nice to walk around the old town and climb to Bratislava castle also. Beautiful view of the Danube. Enjoy.
