We are on a Rick Steve's Tour in Jun from Prague to Budapest. We plan on taking a train up to Slovakia to visit relatives in Liptovsky Mikulas and Bratislava and visit the countryside for three days. Is is better to fly back to the US from Bratislava or travel back to Prague or Budapest to fly back home.

Bratislava has a tiny airport, a much better option would be nearby Vienna.

Vienna is on the direct train line from Budapest and would be a good choice.

Bratislava is very close to Vienna, so I would definitely fly home from Vienna. I hope you will be planning to spend at least a day or two extra in Vienna - a lovely city! And the airport is easy to reach by public transportation from the city center.

Vienna is your best bet for flying back to the States if your last stop is in Bratislava.

I would consider flying back to the US from Kosice, which is a 90 minute drive from Liptovsky Mikulas, versus a 3 hour drive back to Bratisava. I have flown into Kosice several times. It has international connections and nonstop flights to both Vienna and Prague. By driving to Kosice from Liptovsky Mikulas, you can easily stop and visit Propad at the foot of the Tatras, which has stunning scenery; Spiš castle, one of the largest castles in Central Europe is on the route; also Presov before you reach Kosice. There is a very nice Hilton Doubletree hotel in Kosice should you want to spend a night there. Kosice is a walkable town with a huge basilica and museums. Kosice is worth the visit. Plus the airport is so easy to fly out of.
