World Cup enthusiasts+Edinburgh Christmas market+very early dptr for US..where would you stay?

Looking for recommendations for hotel, apt etc for family of 6. Christmas market, pub to watch World Cup, and easy access to EDI for 0600 departures back to US. (Nov 24-26)
From what I’ve read, there’s buses to EDI which run from center of town.
(The mom in me thinks we should stay at hotel near airport). Thoughts?

Edinburgh Christmas Market is not like the ones in Europe.
I found it a bit tacky and lacklustre.
The only thing I liked about it was looking at it lit up from a distance!
Edinburgh itself is pretty though, lights, trees, shop windows decorated.

There's a tram from the Old Town to the airport.

No, the tram goes to/from New Town. But at Princes street it is pretty close to Old Town. The bus is a bit closer to Old Town though, at least it was a couple of years ago when it stopped at Waverley bridge.

Overall, the Christmas markets in the UK are a bit different. There isn't really any Christmas market tradition in the UK. Edinburgh Christmas market dates back to 1999 so it is a very new market compared to the ones on the continent that has been around for centuries.
