There are in the region of 150 distilleries split into 5 distinctive whisky producing regions.
So the first thing to decide is which region you are interested in, before any kind of a tour- walking or otherwise, can be determined.
We did a bit of a driving Whisky Trail on our own. Our friends picked their four favorites (Talisker, Highland Park, Cardhu and I forget) and we laced them together with other sightseeing. Easily done.
Don't miss the cooperage in Craigellachie. It was surprisingly a highlight.
