Where to stop?

We'll be traveling through Scotland in early May via train and need help with where to make stops on two "legs" of our route. We want to travel during daylight to take-in the landscape of the highlands. We'll spend several days and nights in Edinburgh, Isle of Skye and Glasgow, but we're undecided on where to stop on the two "legs".

Leg 1: Depart Edinburgh Morning of May 3 (having made an earlier day trip to Stirling) arrive Inverness evening of May 5. Where to stop for evening of May 3 through the evening May 4? (Perhaps Perth | Pitlochry | Dalwhinnie | Aviemore |?)

Leg 2: Depart Armadale late morning May 8 (via ferry to Mallaig) arrive Glasgow evening May 11 . Where to stop for evening May 8, through the evening of May 10? (Perhaps Glencoe | Oban |?)

There is a third leg (between Inverness and the Isle of Skye), but we're not planning to stop on this leg until we reach the Isle of Skye. I'm aware the train doesn't go to the Isle of Skye: we'll use the bus from Kyle of Lochalsh. Likewise getting to Glencoe; we'll take a bus from Ft William to Glencoe and the bus again to the next train station, or perhaps Oban.

In addition to seeking advise on where to stop, we'd also appreciate recommendations for lodging at the stops.
