Where to stay in Inverness and isle of skye

Hello, I will be traveling this September 11 and 12th to Iverness and on the 13th and 14th will be in Isle of skye. anyone have any hotel Airbnb recommendations? We have found a hotel in Inverness called Glenmoriston Townhouse Hotel, but looking for any other great recos. For Portree we have only found a hotel that’s $700 a night! Ouch!!!!

Rather than stay in Inverness we stayed at Sunny Brae Bed and Breakfast in Nairn, 20 minutes away. From it we were able to drive to all the sites we wanted to visit (Ft. George, Clava Cairns, Culloden). We did drive into Inverness just to walk around. In Inverness we parked for free at the Tesco Superstore.

Skye is extremely popular so the downside is that prices are expensive.

How many people are you booking for?

For Skye, you don’t have to be in Portree. I was booking last November for this coming May and couldn’t believe there was no affordable accommodation in Portree, so I started looking elsewhere. Will you have a vehicle?

You could try in Broadford as an example.

Thank you! I will be looking in Broadford next. I also joined the face group Skye group. Fingers crossed!

For Inverness check out Ardconnel house BnB. It isn’t a very far walk from the train station; although you do have to walk up a hill. it was fine for me. They had a great breakfast and nice meeting room for gathering in the evening.

many people on the forum don’t care for Inverness, but I found it a lovely city and very walkable.

Agree that if you’re having difficulty finding accommodations in Portree, I would look in the towns close by. I stayed in a very nice place in Kyle of Lochalsh called Fasgath BnB

For Inverness we like the Heathmount Hotel, which is a small hotel with a good bar and restaurant within walking distance of the town centre and has a small car park.

For Skye try looking at B&Bs rather than just hotels. Both booking.com and airbnb have plenty of options on Skye. This one a couple of miles outside Portree, but with fantastic views is good. There are two b&b rooms and a self contained cabin.

You might also try the Edinbane Inn which has rooms and a good pub restaurant. Or The Dunvegan in Dunvegan has (basic but clean) bedrooms and a good restaurant.

Thanks everyone. We did end up booking Braken Hide, which I call the Tellatubby room :) seems like an adventure to stay in one!

Ok so for Bracken Hide be aware that cannot park your car near the pods and need to convey your bags up quite a steep hill to your pod. The restaurant has changed hands so I have no idea what is going on there and whether the food will be any good by the time you arrive. You are essentially camping albeit you have a solid roof over your head.

Thanks Skyegirl I may need to rethink Braken Hide. I’ll check in broadtree and surrounding towns mentioned above.

Honestly have a look at Edinbane Inn. It's a lovely wee place and there's a gourmet restaurant (Edinbane Lodge) a two minute walk across the street. Actually if you want really posh accommodation then the Edinbane Lodge also have rooms.

You're only 20 minutes from Dunvegan and 20 minutes from Portree and it's a very peaceful location.

The other main settlements on the island after Portree are Broadford and Dunvegan. There's also Carbost, but I'm not aware of much accommodation there. In Dunvegan you could try Atholl House Hotel. The owners are really nice and they do meals and there are two other restaurants (the Dunvegan and The Old School) in walking distance.
