I will be ending my trip in September with 2 nights in Glasgow before heading to Edinburgh to fly home. We will only be there for one full day and am interested in seeing the Kelvingrove Museum and then generally walking around to get a sense of the city. Would love to stay somewhere where we can easily access pubs/restaurants and local fare. Perhaps boutique type shopping if it still exists. There seem to be plenty of hotels in Glasgow but it's hard for me to tell what a good location will be for us. We like the looks of the Social Hub at 15 Candleriggs Glasgow G1 1TQ, but I can't tell if that's a good location. We will have had two weeks of travel bouncing from location to location and would just like a place where we can park ourselves and easily walk. Any thoughts would be appreciated including hotel recommendations if you have any. Thanks.
In 2022 we stayed at the Alamo Guest House for 3 nights. We found it a great place to stay and centrally located.
We stayed at the Alamo last year. Short walk to the Kelvingrove Museum and park, both very nice. A lot of restaurants within walking distance. I wasn’t thrilled that the desk wasn’t staffed 24 hours but there were no problems and the area felt very safe walking. It’s a longer walk or a short taxi to the city center/pedestrian area, Buchanan St. I enjoyed the area and I would recommend going over to the Cathedral and walking up into the Necropolis, great views.,
We enjoyed Glasgow very much.
In June 2023 we stayed at Motel One near the central train station. It was a great location close to the downtown restaurants and less than a 5 minute walk to a subway station that will take you close to Kelvingrove.
I don't know the Alamo Guest House, but I know that street and it's a good location imho.

I talked about that neighbourhood in another thread recently (Kelvingrove and Finnieston).
[...]the Finnieston neighbourhood is a short walk from there. There's a real food scene come up there in the last few years. Several very high quality, cool places to eat on that stretch of Argyle Street. Several very good pubs around there and the Kelvingrove area too. The most well-known is probably the Ben Nevis. It's known for its selection of fine malt whiskys. Some of the pubs have a Highland flavour and clientele and there are regular traditional music sessions to be found.
Candleriggs is a good location. That's in the Merchant City area, which is home to good places to eat and drink and the shops are upscale; fashion designers etc.
Premier Inn Buchanan Galleries would be convenient for Buchanan Galleries shopping mall and also Buchanan Bus Station has coaches to Edinburgh Airport. Also near an underground station to travel to Kelvingrove.
Just wanted to add that if you’re staying in the Alamo Guesthouse area in addition to the Kelvingrove Museum is the Hunterian Art Museum. It is located in the University of Glasgow, about a 15-20 minute walk from the Alamo. Features many Whistlers, as well as Rembrandt, Glasgow Boys and much more.
The Snaffle Bit is one of the good pubs I was talking about in that area and it's yards from The Alamo. I used to be in there quite often with a colleague from work. It was his local and we'd walk up there for a pint after work.
Hi Everyone,
Thank you all for your thoughtful responses and generous time in responding. It's really helpful in orienting me to Glasgow. This forum is amazing. I'm grateful.
