Hi, I’m in the USA and I’m almost 51,my father just passed away. But years before he did we did the DNA through ancestry And it came back as my Fathers bloodline his 15th great grandfather was King James I I of Scotland. We got a 2nd test done somewhere else and same results.I’d like to visit my home land. But I’d like it different than normal trip.I’d like a cool laid back person that could show me around and hangout and fill me in on history I’m not aware of. I’m really looking to do this with in a year.Anyone have any good leads.Don’t want to go with a normal travel agency, boring!
Try toursbylocals.com. You can read the profiles of the guides and arrange private tours. Prices vary.
At the 15th great grandfather level that gives you 32,768 great grandfathers to choose from. That is probably a third of the population of Scotland in 1450. But probably most of the 15th great grandfathers were not Scotsmen. Interesting what DNA finds.
Welcome to the forum. My condolences on the passing of your father.
Just for clarification... are you looking for a guide who creates a tour and accompanies you on that tour? OR are you looking more to put together your own trip and perhaps use a private guide for a few days during that trip?
Edinburg Black Cab Tours is the best. While they are located in Edinburg, they go everywhere. I loved the most - it's a chauffeur-drive for just your party rather than a tour with strangers. And no timetables that you must be on the bus at this time etc. Each driver is certified tour guide. Ours was no only a tour guide and historian, he was also a grand photography mentor. My friend, our guide, and a Mercedes trekked all over Scotland.
