I'll be headed to the Highlands on October 1st. We'll be staying in Inverness, Kyle of Locklash, Portree, and Fort William. Growing up, my father had a really nice red sweater, made out of Scottish wool, with a Lion Rampart embroidered crest on it and I'd like to surprise him with a new one. I am a passionate knitter so I don't mind paying for quality. Are there any shops you'd recommend? Thanks so much!
you'll be looking for a lion Rampant - standing on its hind legs, not rampart which is the defensive part of a castle?

I can't help with ideas, but I did find this pattern for knitting a lion rampant on a sweater,,,
I haven't seen anything like that in any of the shops in Portree (and there are not that many shops). There is one shop in Kyle that sells woollens, but I wouldn't bank on getting it there. A big city might be be a better choice, but I can't honestly think of anywhere in Inverness either. There's a woollen/tartan shop at the end of the high street in Fort William, but even an online search doesn't bring up any options, so I think you might be looking for a unicorn.
Pringle of Scotland is a very fine knitwear company and their logo includes a Lion Rampant. They have a store in Edinburgh and an outlet store in Hawick (pronounced more like "Hoick" btw), where I believe they originate from. The company has moved upmarket in more recent times to compete with luxury brands like Burberry, but their sweaters have long been a favourite of golfers. Maybe not what you had in mind, and both those stores are some distance from the places you mention, but many other places around Scotland will stock Pringle.
Picking up on GerryM's post - Pringles do have an on line shop, so if you are unsuccessful as you travel around Scotland, you could always order on on line. They do a range of different colour logos on their sweaters, cargigans and sleeveless jumpers. I could only find two which had a red lion though.
