Where to buy 35mm camera film in Inverness?

Hi everyone!
I have another question - does anyone know if I can find 35mm camera film in Inverness? I was planning on bringing my own from the States but I caught a snag.

35mm film is very sensitive to x-rays and the film will get destroyed if it goes through the new CT scanners. In the US, TSA will honor a hand scan, but with our connecting flight in Heathrow, after browsing some camera forums, I see that it is likely that security will not honor a hand scan and they'll put the film through an x-ray.

The way to avoid this is putting money in the local economy and buying film in Inverness. Open to all suggestions :)

What kind of film are you looking for? Shooting film is a bit of a special interest these day and I would not expect to be able to buy e.g. Tri-X or Velvia in Inverness.

How will you get the film back home? Or are you going to have it all developed in Scotland?

How will you get the film back home?

Having it x-rayed once is better than twice.

Any branch of Boots in the UK will have a small stock of film. The branch in Inverness city centre also does processing according to Google.

the processing at 2 of the 3 Inverness shops is identified on the Boots store finder is "send away".

The third doesn't offer that send away service.

Are you talking about 35mm slide or print film? If so, this isn't readily available. Inverness doesn't seem to have a specialist camera shop.

However, Max Spielman does sell 35mm film on line They have a store in Tesco Nairn Road Extra and it may be possible to order film on line and collect from the store. You could try emailing them and ask. Inverness@maxspielmann.com

Boots on line don't list any 35mm film, so chances are you won't find any in store.

Jessops do sell 35mm film on line but the nearest store to Inverness is Glasgow.

Nigel; I had assumed that would be the case, but the processing at The Eastgate Centre branch seems to be handled by Max Spielman in Inverness. I'd hope the turnaround would be same day or next day on 35mm colour processing and print, which may be good enough for me.

I'd be really surprised if Boots didn't have ANY 35mm print film at all. Sad, if so. My local neighbourhood Tesco Express always has a few rolls of Fuji 35mm print film in stock behind the counter. May or may not be an alternative place to look at other branches of same.

As others have said, not many specialist camera shops left. Good to see Jessops still have a branch in Glasgow. It's under a different ownership now after they went into receivership some years ago. Merchant City Cameras in Glasgow is another recommendation. I know them as Quiggs from a long time ago and they're still around. Fat lot of good that does you if you're in Inversneckie though!
