What train passes to purchase?

Hello,

My hubby and I will travelling between glasgow and edinburgh once and have a tour trip to the highlands (that doesn't require train trips). Is it worth it to get some sort of pass ? or just purchase individual trips as they come? if so, is prebooking needed?

thanks!

How many trips between Glasgow and Edinburgh do you plan to make by train?

Passes are generally only relevant if you are making multiple trips. Just buy single rail tickets about 11 weeks in advance for the best prices.

I think you'll find that throughout Europe and the United Kingdom, train travel is between cities and towns, while trams, subways, and buses are not related to train systems. As such, if you are traveling between Glasgow and Edinburgh, a train trip of about 52 minutes would cost around 14 pounds. Hardly worth the expense of a rail pass.

And I don't think there's much of a discount, ever, on the Glasgow-Edinburg route. (i.e. I found advance tickets for 12.80, but the regular ticket is only 14.40). Therefore, there's no real advantage to (or need for) buying in advance on that route. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!!)
