What to do in Edinburgh on a Sunday (In April)

Hi, will be in Edinburgh in mid-April, and have already booked a few sights for other days. We have Sunday "open", right now. Any suggestions on what to do on a Sunday? Not sure what is open or closed on a Sunday. Thanks for your suggestions! Karen

What have you already planned?? The castle is open on Sundays and am pretty certain we visited the Britannia on a Sunday in October.

A walk up Calton Hill for great views across the city. The Museum of Scotland. The National Gallery of Scotland. The National Portrait Gallery of Scotland.

It sounds mundane, but a picnic in Princess Street Gardens (betwee olde and new town) makes for a relaxing day with great people watching and striking up conversations with some of the locals. Weather permitting, of course!

I second what Skyegirl said about walking up, down, and all around Calton Hill. We did it our first day in Edinburgh (our hotel was nearby) and loved it so much, we went back the next day.

The Botanic Gardens, a walk through Dean Village, Sunday roast lunch somewhere.

I wanted to do one of Rabbie's Outlander tours while in Scotland this upcoming May and saw we'd be in Edinburgh on a Sunday so I booked the tour for that day, just in case things we wanted to see in town were closed or had limited hours on Sundays. If you're wanting to do a day tour outside of the city it could be a good day to book that.

Yes, but depending on the tour stops, you might be disappointed if one or more of those spots is a place that’s essentially shut down on Sunday. So, as always, you need to do your homework and find out!
