West Highland Line from Glasgow to Mallaig

Hello I am attempting to reserve two seats on the West Highland Line from Glasgow to Mallaig. When I use the online reservation page, I cannot seem to request two seats next to each other. I also read that being on the left side for the first portion of the trip is best. I cannot request a side of the train. Finally, when I take whatever seat they want to give me, it says that my trip is from Glasgow to Dailmuir and then on to Mallaig. I thought that the two portions of the trip were Glasgow to Fort William and then Fort William to Mallaig. Does anyone have experience with booking tickets from Glasgow to Mallaig?
Thanks!
Suzanne

It sounds as if you are trying to book from Glasgow Central (when you would have to switch trains at Dalmuir). The through train runs from Glasgow Queen Street.

The alternative explanation is that you are booking the £25.60 split ticket from Queen Street - which is a ticket split at Dalmuir (stay on the same train). One of the perils of splitting tickets. The £34.30 Advance Single or £47.40 Anytime Day Single would overcome that issue.
However It is unlikely that many people use that long distance train for a local suburban journey to Dalmuir (let alone book a seat to do so) so in all likelihood your seats from Dalmuir should be available from Queen Street

You can't choose the side of the train (which reverses at Fort William) as no-one knows which way round the train will be marshalled.

Under seating preferences you can choose many options, but the system that far out should give you either adjacent or facing seats across a table by default. At Fort William you really want to change sides to be on the left hand side for the stretch to Mallaig after the reversal.

Hello Yes, I did pick from Queen Street. I think it went to a split ticket. I will try to get the non-split ticket. Hopefully we will be seated next to each other by default.
Thanks!
