Waverly Station Luggage Lockers

Good Morning,

We are 5 days away until we depart for our Scotland trip! Upon talking with our apartment manager, we found we cannot access the apartment until 2pm. Current guests depart at 10am, we arrive @ 7:30am so Im sure we will be in the city before they depart.

We plan to use the lockers at Waverly station to store our luggage so we arent schlepping them around Edinburgh until checkin. Has anyone had any experience with them?

Also, my husband would like to use the showers to freshen up after our long journey (coming from Denver). Im sure they are clean but is there anything particular we should know in advanced i.e. towels, shower shoes? Now that I think of it, I might explain to him all the extras he would need to pack..

Thanks for any advice!

Like most (or all?) UK train stations, Edinburgh Waverly has a manned Left Luggage

Very few British stations have Left Luggage, only the large ones. I would guess about 20 out of thousands. It is always manned, there are no unmanned lockers in the UK. They are operated by an external company, not by the railway.
Most (including Edinburgh) are operated by this company: https://www.left-baggage.co.uk/index/locations

You can look up facilities at all stations here: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations_destinations/default.aspx

You may have thought about this and asked the owner already, but we were able to leave our luggage at the building where our apartment was in Edinburgh when we arrived early. This won't help with the shower, though.

I did not express myself well. I meant that "most (or all) UK rail stations lack lockers for luggage"---for security reasons. Only some, mainly large urban stations, have Left Luggage facilities. And yes, they are expensive.

Thank you for the advice!

I asked our apartment if we could drop off our luggage but unfortunately we cant. Im going to reserve our luggage on Saturday when I know how many bags we'll have. But will look into the location mentioned outside of Waverly (sorry, on my phone so cant see who mentioned it).

My husband is Army, so the showers wont be a problem....hes experienced worse. Was more curious what he would need. I was able to google images....they look rather nice.

Thanks again!

I'm with gus, looks like you can rent a large storage locker at the Edinburgh bus station at St. Andrews square for 8 pounds for 12 hours, they claim on their website the large locker will hold a few bags. 12 bucks a bag at Waverly sounds too pricey for me! It appears the train station is 12 per bag!!!, unless I read that wrong. It may depend on which way you are heading from the Waverly Station to your apartment, as you can see from the maps St. Andrews square bus station is just a couple of blocks north from Waverly!

8£ is definitely better than 12 per bag! Ill look for that storage now!

The Bus station is only about 200 yards from the train station,if you are coming from the airport the tram stops almost outside the bus station

we rode the tram and it was pretty easy, staff was very helpful to confused non-public transport savy midwesterners! Some folks prefer the bus but for me the extra coin for the tram was worth it..you grab the tram between the airport exit and the walk to the rental car area at Edi!
