A couple plans to be in Edinburgh in early May; on our own, not in a tour group.
Does anyone have suggestions for visiting the Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies?

Hopefully intel from these websites will help you decide how to visit.
wdlangrc, will you have a rental car? It's easy to get to both, which are near each other, with a car, but public transportation can also be used, although it takes a bit more maneuvering.
Will you be doing this as a day trip from Edinburgh or Glasgow? Or will you be heading there as part of a road trip to somewhere else. More information would be helpful.
We went through Tartan Tours with guide Stewart Gunn. Highly recommend. I actually got his information from this forum. Our base was Glasgow, but I know he picks up in Edinburgh as well. It was money so well spent. He was an amazing guide! Both places were a wonder!

We had a rental car when we visited both. We also stopped to see the Forth bridge.
On your way back, stop off in Linlithgow. Lovely town and the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, apparently.
