Very windy weather forecast week of March 23!

We are planning to be in Scotland the week of March 23 and I've been following the long-term weather forecasts. I just noticed last night the very strong winds that are forecast, especially on Tuesday!! This link is for Inverness but I found similar forecasts for Central Scotland. http://www.yourweather.co.uk/weather_Inverness-Europe-United+Kingdom-Highland--nxw-33756.html

Are these typical?? I don't think it is even possible to be out and about with 50-60 mph winds? We may be doing a lot of drinking and museums....

Those figures are for gusts, the averages if it is windy will be much lower. It is not that unusual to have strong winds at this time of year. The BBC long range forecast for those days in Inverness is around 20 mph for the wind.

I had hoped it was something like that. But gusts of that size could really make a vehicle jump around on the road!

It would be interesting to watch tourists handling open umbrellas in 100 kph gusts. It could be like watching a Mary Poppins rerun in reverse.

When it's windy, Scots call it a "fresh" day.

Another good reason to have a rain jacket with a hood!

Just returned home - the weather was quite fair with no noticeable huge gusts of wind! Our biggest surprise was ~2" of snow on Wednesday, March 25. Overall, much more sun than we expected and we were lucky enough to experience rain when we were driving, not when we were out and about. Daytime temps were 8-10 and I managed the entire week wearing two layers of long-sleeved tops covered by a long cardigan for a jacket along with a scarf.

I live in Edinburgh and this past week has been very pleasant for March, a bit windy but that is normal for this time of year and snow futher north than Edinburgh is common ,actually so is snow in Edinburgh but it never last long as the daytime temps get high enough to melt it.
pleased that the wwather wasn't as bad as you expected. we are now officially into British Summertime and it is bloody freezing this morning.

American author and humorist Mark Twain once quipped that the coldest winter he ever experienced was a summer in San Francisco. Don't know whether he spent much time in Scotland.

well the stong winds are hitting Scotland now.high winds up to 65mph, snow ,sleet and hail, a very nasty day in store.
we have a saying about March "In like a Lion out like a lamb" or" in like a lamb out like a lion". I think we have got the lion this year.
