I just finished watching a five-part tv series on Prime called Highland Cops. The series documents the work of the Highland and Islands division of Police Scotland - in other words real cops doing real police work in some of the remotest parts of Scotland. The work covers everything from mountain rescues in Skye and Glencoe, sometimes with tragic results, to traffic stops (useful info there about the alcohol limits for DUI in Scotland - they are low so don’t drive after a whiskey tasting!) and coping with a major storm in the Hebrides. For people planning on driving throughout the Highlands you will get a very good view of the single track roads, of the stunning scenery and of how variable the weather can be. Also Some interesting social commentary - especially related to problems in the few urban areas and how the Police handle them.
I think the series would be an excellent primer for anyone considering driving around the Highlands. Warning - you may have a problem understanding some of the Scottish accents!
