We are heading to Scotland in July and applied and purchased the UK ETA.
No problem - did it online. My understanding is that it was sent to my
passport electronically. I have no proof of the purchase other than the charge
on a card. Will this work seamlessly? First time that we have gotten the ETA.
Thank you!
You don't need anything else to go through passport control, but some airlines are asking that travelers show the email confirmation as proof of having an ETA.
I've entered the UK three times since I needed an ETA. No problems. Procedure is the same as before.
I've entered twice. Like Frank, I've encountered no problems nor any requests for anything.
When I applied about a week ago, I received two emails. One was saying the ETA was being reviewed (right after submission) and then a second one (about a half hour later) stating it was approved. I did mine through the app, however, so maybe doing it online there are differences with acknowledging the purchase?
You don't need anything else.
However, too many airline personnel haven't a clue what is needed.
I was asked by the British Airways agent at Paris CDG when I was checking in for my connecting flight to London in April if I had my ETA. I showed her a screenshot of my approval email even though it's not needed for transiting passengers.
Save the email or a screenshot, if you still have it.
Thank you for your advice.
We're flying to London on Sunday. On Friday, British Airways emailed us with their standard 72-hour reminder. It mentioned the ETA, which I had never heard of! I was amazed how little attention this has received. How had I missed it? Oh, great, I thought. It's already late Friday afternoon in England! What were the chances that this would get processed in time? But in the end, it was pretty easy. You need a smartphone, but it doesn't have to be your own — any will do. It took about ten minutes to complete, including using the phone to photograph our passports (separate applications are required) and take selfies. It cost a little over $22 each, due to our weakening dollar. After each of our submissions, we immediately received acknowledgments. About five minutes after that, the confirmations came through saying they were accepted. I photographed the acceptance emails, but supposedly showing them isn't necessary.
My guess is that the application processing is entirely electronic and likely to be done around the clock. It only requires more time if something gets flagged, I assume.
@ John. Good for you for reading your email from British Airways and following up on it. This has been a topic of discussion here on the forum for awhile. Check in every little bit or so to keep up with current happenings.
I may be slightly paranoid, but you definitely should have received a confirmation email. You should not need to show proof to the airline or anywhere else, but you should have received proof for yourself that your ETA was processed and approved.
If you use the app, it will have shown as approved within the app as well.
Are you sure you applied using the official site or app:
If so, you would have received an ETA application approval email with your ETA reference number. The email would have come from the UK Visas and Immigration Home Office uk.visas.and.immigration.home.office@notifications.service.gov.uk
