I have never used them and I seldom use taxis in Edinburgh as the public transport is so good and for me free as I am over 60.
There has been a lot of problems with Uber charges form what I have read in local news.
what sort of use are you going to be needing in Edinburgh, might be able to advise on alternatives.

My wife has arthritis and traveling with an infant with stroller so I thought an uber is cheaper than a cab. I have used uber here in the states without any issues. Tx

if just travelling around in Edinburgh then the buses are very good,

a day ticket for an adult is only £4 and lasts from around 5am till the last bus about midnight, children under 5 years travel free and you can even take the stroller onto the bus without having to fold it.You may have to do so if another stroller is on the bus or the space is need for a wheel chair

Yes, the cheapest option is a day ticket for the public bus. But Uber does exist in Edinburgh. You can get a fare estimate at www.uber.com for whatever city you are interested in, but I don't know how you could compare it to a taxi fare. I do know that in Madrid, at least, the fare for Uber is not all that much cheaper than a taxi. And since there are five of you, that might be over the passenger limit for an UberX, so you might have to take another level of Uber (XL or Exec) to accomodate your group.
