two nights in Inverness? car rental Isle of Skye

We won't have a car and will have arrived from the Isle of Skye and on our way to the Orkneys...will have taken a bus from Portree to Kyle of Lochalsh and from there, the train to Inverness...it'll be a long day so thinking of two overnights in Inverness as we'll be tired the first night....so, we'll have one full day to explore Inverness to Thurso....

what is recommended in Inverness

also, where can one rent a car on the Isle of Skye? we don't want to rent one until we are on the island

Not in Inverness, but close to is Culloden Visitor c+centre and battlefield. Clava Cairns are just a short distance from there. Fort George is a bit further and is also worth visiting. It is an amazing Defensive site with ramparts and ditches and would have been impregnable. It was built after Culloden to subdue the highlands. It is still used by the military today

On Skye your best bet for a car rental is Morrisons in Portree Morrison Car Hire or Morar Motors based in Kyle & Mallaig Morar Motors

Don't be surprised if Morrisons are very slow to reply to enquiries on their website. They are a very small company with a main business as a repair garage. You might do best by phoning them if you can.

As both businesses are small you will need to book a car well in advance.
