Two Half Days in Edinburgh - Itinerary Help

We will be arriving in Edinburgh on a Sunday afternoon via train from London and have the rest of Sunday, and then Tuesday morning in Edinburgh. Monday we are taking a tour of the Highlands. What are the must sees in Edinburgh? Planning to do the Royal Mile, go to Dean Village, maybe Arthur's Seat? There are many things that look great, but we are having trouble narrowing it down due to our limited time!

Depending how thoroughly you like to look at points of interest, you may not even make it the length of the Royal Mile in half a day. There is so much to see, even in Edinburgh Castle itself! If you have certain points that mean a lot to you, you'll want to keep your eye on the time -- for example, to get to Holyrood before closing.

Also, if the weather is really awful, be aware that the National Museum is very spacious and has lots of exhibits of interest to people of all ages. It's a great place to get in out of the weather, check your raincoat and relax in dry, warm surroundings.

Rather than an audio guide, join one of the many walking tours that are offered. (not the free ones, go for a quality tour) See if you can go on a literary tour. They kept walking past us while we were on our crappy free tour, and the literary tour guide sounded fascinating.
Go on a tour of the underground vaults. Really unique.

Thanks for all this information! For those that have done it, is Arthur's Seat worth it given limited time? It is just 2 of us.

If you are at all interested in the British Royal Family you might enjoy a visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia. Royal Yacht

I have not climbed Arthur's Seat, but here is a very good description of the walk. Arthurs Seat
