Two day tour itinerary with rental car for Scotland

Family trip to Scotland and need feedback or assistance with itinerary from Edinburgh since we had last minute change of plans. I have a rental car reserved for round trip from Edinburgh and 2 full days. Below, I listed the itinerary I put together and looking for feedback on drive times and if it is realistic. Thanks for your input.

Day 1 (Sunday): Leave Edinburgh and drive to Inverness. I plan to go through/near the Cairngorms National Park and Culloden Battlefield on way to Inverness. Stay the night in Inverness.

Day 2 (Monday): Urquhart Castle, Glencoe, Oban, Loch Lomond, Stirling. Stay the night in Stirling (already have airbnb booked).

Day 3 (Tuesday): Tour Stirling Castle in the morning (tickets already purchased) and return back to Edinburgh for afternoon train.

Thanks again.

For Day 1, I can recommend staying overnight in Nairn instead of Inverness itself. From what others have commented, I understand Inverness doesn't have much charm or much to see/do. (I'm sure some will disagree...) Nairn is a smaller town, very near Culloden Battlefield and Cawdor Castle. I can recommend Tali Ayer B&B, but there are lots of other B&Bs in town.

Day 2 will be a long day's drive. I definitely would not go all the way out to Oban. Instead, turn south toward Glencoe on the A82 at the Connel Bridge (North & South Ballachullagh). You'll probably want to stop in Fort William for lunch. We had a very tasty and inexpensive lunch in the Morrison's supermarket -- they have a nice cafeteria! If you stop for very long at Urquhart Castle, you won't have much time for the other locations. There are numerous other points of interest along the way, but you won't have time to stop and see them all.

Day 3 sounds perfect!

I agree that day 2 is way too much driving. I travel south from Skye to Glasgow very frequently and have lots of experience in stopping for food in Fort William. My experience is that the absolute best place to stop is the Highland Soap Visitor Centre's Larder Cafe. It's just great, which interesting breakfast, brunch and lunch options and wonderful sweet treats. Don't miss it!

Whoever says Inverness lacks charm has no taste whatsoever. :o)

I happen to love Inverness; there's lots of highland music, good pubs and fine restaurants there, and walks along the River Ness offer a very tranquil experience. But each to his own. (Nairn is a charming coastal village, but there's not much in the way of entertainment there if there are no Highland Games afoot, unless you play golf and avail yourself of Nairn Links.)

Inverness is an excellent place to stay, there is lots to see and do.

Day two has a lot of driving, Inverness to Oban is nearly 3 hours driving and that's not being waylaid by any interesting things to see along the way such as toilet stops and tea breaks.

Thank you everyone for the feedback.

Day 1 - Edinburgh to Inverness. We plan to visit Culloden Battlefield before closing. Any recommendations on sites to visit along the way. I was debating on taking the A9 vs the Snow Roads in Cairngorms National Park. My daughter tends to get car sick so I assume A9 will be a safer choice.

Day 2 - Inverness to Urquhart Castle, Glencoe, Stirling. Is that the a full day and doable? Is Loch Lomond a good side trip between Glencoe and Stirling or just go straight to Stirling? Recommendations on sites/stops along the way are appreciated.

Thanks again.

For day 2 it all depends how long you want to spend in each place. If you just plan to drive through Glencoe stopping for a couple of photos with maybe a side detour to drive Glen Etive then you'll be OK. If you want to actually hike in Glencoe then it will make for a very long day (the hikes around that area are challenging and you'd need proper equipment). Loch Lomond is pretty, but again I assume you just want to stop for a few photos? My preference would be to miss Loch Lomond which can get over run by visitors, by turning left at Crianlarich onto the A85 and then have a look at Loch Earn, Loch Lubnaig and/or Loch Venachar and maybe even Loch Katrine.

I've already made suggestions for brunch/lunch near Fort William. You could also have lunch at the Kings House Hotel at the top of Glencoe (I stayed there a few weeks back and it was great and the food decent). Callander also has lots of food options.
