Turus Mara Wildlife Tour from Oban

Hi everyone!

My family is keen to see the puffins as part of our trip to Scotland in May 2026. Sunday was the day we had dedicated for the puffins tour, but CalMac ferry has canceled their early morning ferry on Sundays, leaving the 9:55AM ferry as the first one out. This makes it impossible to take the West Coast Tours trip. However, Turus Mara shows that the 9:55AM ferry works for their tour. In reading their website, they don't have a set schedule to review, which makes me slightly uncomfortable. Has anyone taken a tour with them? If you could share your experience, either good or bad, I would appreciate it!

There are a lot of moving parts here; thank you all for whatever input you can provide.

Turus Mara are great and a long standing operator who leave from Ulva Ferry. Is it the full Treshnish Isles trip you want to do or only to Staffa? Presumably just to Staffa as it’s a shorter trip.

I’ve sailed with TR three times, including twice to Lunga (Treshnish Isles) for their incredible Puffin Therapy trip.My own write up here..skip to what’s most relevant for you…it’s certainly THE trip to do for the most up close experience to these wonderful birds.

On the Staffa only trip you will see puffins but not necessarily that close up, mostly on the sea or flying up to their burrows and not in the sheer numbers on Lunga.

Thank you for your reply, scotlandmac. The tour is to Staffa and Lunga, and yes, it leaves from Ulva. My concern was that there's not a lot of content on their website; I was looking for some peace of mind. Thank you so much for linking your review, it's wonderful! The fact that you sailed with them three times is a strong recommendation!

I appreciate this information. Thank you very much!
