Trotter is isle of skye

We have one more day In the isle of Skye and plan to drive the loop around the trotternish. We want to see the old man of storr, the kilt rock, the quirang and possibly walk to the fairy pools.

We don't have too much time we know so - would anyone recommend the fairy pools or something else. We are looking for a shorter walk not a long one.

Is there anything we are missing. We are staying in portree.

Thank you

Hi Jacque, I'm sure someone who's done a shorter walk will respond, but in the meantime, you might want to check out Walk Highlands. Here's the [link][1]. And here's another site that lists their top ten walks for all of Skye. I've used Walk Highlands, but other resources can be helpful.

as walks on Skye go the one down to the Fairy Pools is pretty short and pretty easy. You can choose to view the pools that are closest to the road and the walk is half a mile or less. You can venture further up the valley if you want but a couple of hours is enuff time to see the pools and soak in the surroundings! Parking is somewhat of a jam so you will have to poke around for a spot. Kilt Rock parking is right where you view the falls so thats also an easy look. I wonder if you are asking about the Fairy Glen rather than the Fairy Pools, the Fairy Glen is more out on Trotternish as the Fairy Pools are back toward Carbost a bit. If the weather is good a short walk to view the Quirang and then a drive across to the other side of Trotternish puts you over by the Fairy Glen and I would recommend the Fairy Glen too if the weather is ok. The turn for the Fairy Glen is hard to find so be aware that the turn is not well marked, but the Glen and Pools are magical in my opinion. Pam is right on target with the suggest for walkhighland.co.uk for a map to get you there and trails if you walk. The simpler view would be the Fairy Pools but I had to choose I would choose Storr, Kilt Rock, Quirang, and the Fairy Glen if you leave Portree and go counter clockwise! You wont need over 2 hours for the Fairy Pools if you want a good view and a short walk. Want to add tht my wife said she would choose a trip to the Fairy Pools over the Fairy Glen!

Jarradd,

We had a great time however we did not walk to the fairy pools because of the midges. They are pesky little bugs that swarm and bite. It was very unpleasant. The kilt rock was nice and the old man of storr was in the clouds. We drove back up the next morning to see it and we're able to view it from the road before we were on our way.

We ended up going to the dunvegan castle which was very nice. We did a lot of driving but did not mind. We saw a lot. Beautiful country.
