Traveling Scotland/UK in November

I plan on spending all of November in the UK starting in Scotland. I will not be driving and I am well aware the that this limits my destinations. My question is should I be alright NOT booking my whole stay in advance because it's the slow season? I was hoping to book about three nights in the city I fly into and then book three nights somewhere else and catch a bus or train to my next destination and simply keep doing that down to London for my return flight, is this feasible if I don't book them all too far in advance as it is November?

Hi, phoenix.riser87,

Glen Campbell/Jimmy Webb fan, by any chance?

One thing to be aware of while you're in Scotland - as November draws to a close, the hours of daylight will become shorter. You should not have any trouble finding accommodation, but you may be limited to hotels, as many B&Bs close down after the tourist season ends. When in a pinch, the ubiquitous Premier Inns are just about everywhere in Britain. They are usually clean and comfortable, and inexpensive if you can book in advance. You may wish to check the football schedule ahead of time when travelling to a city with a team. If there is a home match, much of the budget accommodation may have been booked up by the away team supporters.

A few of the historical sites that you may want to visit could possibly have closed by the end of October. So you will need to plan your route somewhat carefully, but leave yourself open for those moments of serendipity.

Many years ago, I spent most of the month of November in Scotland. It was cold, but not unbearably so. Come prepared for temperatures in the 40s and 50s (Fahrenheit!), but don't be surprised if it ends up being warmer than that.

Best wishes for your journey.

You should be ok re booking places a few days out.

November, the colours of the Highlands are out of this world as is the light so, fingers crossed, it should be a stunning trip.A very popular month for photographers.
