Traveling between Edinburgh Airport area hotel to/from Military Tattoo

We will be on RS tour of Scotland 7/19 through 7/31 and then traveling to Denmark from 7/31 until 8/5. On 8/5 we fly back to
Edinburgh for a flight home on 8/6. We have dinner/Tattoo tickets for the evening of 8/5 and was wondering about transportation from our hotel near the airport into Edinburgh for the evening and back to the hotel. Any recommendations on the fastest/best way to travel (rail/bus system, taxi, Uber, etc.) would be most appreciated. We are first-time travelers to Scotland and looking forward to our trip.

Hi, sandysmith729,

The cheapest way would be to take the tram in to town, provided there is a tram stop near your airport hotel. However, the last tram leaves for the airport at 10:45 p.m., so you probably would not have enough time to make your way down The Mound to Princes Street before the last tram. You could certainly take the tram in to town, as it's only six pounds, and it only takes about half an hour.

A taxi would be my choice for your return journey. You should be able to hail one on the way to Princes Street, or if that fails, over by Waverley Station.

Best wishes,

Mike (Auchterless)

Thanks, Mike, for this info. Since we will be in Scotland a few days ahead of the start of our tour, I'm sure we'll probably wonder about the area using the tram system. This will certainly be a good starting point in getting familiar with it. Your advice has been very helpful to us.

The tram is good, but you could also consider the AirLink #100 Lothian bus that goes to and from the airport every 10 mins (takes about 30 mins) - easy to buy a round trip ticket at 7.5 pounds; it makes an airport hotel stop just before the airport, so maybe it's adjacent to your airport hotel? Rick mentions this transport option in Edinburgh/Scotland book. It picks up/drops off at Waverly Bridge. Buy ticket at Airport bus ticket booth right where bus loads or buy on bus at other stops. Was super convenient with round trip ticket and double decker bus with lots of seats, plus nice monitor on bus with updates on departing flights and upcoming stops. Check out route/stops on website:

Thank you Aprilfoolproof for this very useful information. Since we are staying at the Hampton by Hilton at the airport, this should be a very good solution. We will look at the bus website for further details. We appreciate your help.
