I'm looking for a cheap way to get from Edinburgh to Drummond Castle and the Highland Folk Museum in one day and back to Edinburgh and struggling. It will be my son and I and we do not have a vehicle. Your ideas are appreciated. Thank you!

These are not natural partners for the day by public transport.
Drummond Gardens is bus 15a every 2 hours from Perth, 1 hour journey. Leave Perth at 0905.
The Highland Folk Museum is Newtonmore Station. The problem is that few trains stop at Newtonmore. Apart from the Caledonian Sleeper the first northbound is at 1313 (1156 from Perth), the second at 1606 (too late for the Museum).
You COULD get a taxi back from the gardens at just before noon, then the 1312 train to Kingussie, arrive 1425, taxi the 2 miles or so to the Museum, then the 1820 Kingussie to Edinburgh arrive 2127 (change at Stirling)- but 3 taxis in the day is the opposite of being "cheap". However that is the only way I can see of making this work.
Otherwise you will have to choose one or the other. The last train from Newtonmore to Edinburgh is at 1644.
