Travel Route Tips - Cullen to Edinburgh

There is an hourly coach-bus (Inverness to Aberdeen) #35 at 47 minutes past each hour to Aberdeen- 2:45 ride.

The buses do have toilets on board. The bus fare is £13.30

From Aberdeen the most cost effective solution is the Flix Bus for as low as £3.98 + booking fee to Edinburgh, then look at Citylink bus (booked through Megabus, not direct with Citylink) for £11.10 + booking fee. Trains are currently from £21.80 Advance Fare or £14.20 on the LNER trains to London at 1252, 1452 or 1818

So it costs not too much more to do train over bus from Aberdeen.

The 35 Stagecoach bus to Elgin is likely best start.
Advance tickets by train from Elgin to Edinburgh can be had from £34.
About 4 hours 20 from Elgin to Edinburgh.

It looks like a walk up train fare is typically £60

The problem with Elgin is three fold- 1) You are heading in the wrong direction from Cullen; 2) The 90 minute less bus journey you then lose again on the train to Aberdeen and end up spending more; 3) Bus and Rail Stations are not adjacent as at Aberdeen- it is a bit of a stride between the two.

By the way if you are going back to Edinburgh merely for the flight (and will spend most of the day getting there) and are looking for the most cost effective route you may like to look at staying overnight in Dundee.

Hotel prices there are far better than in Edinburgh, and there is a lot of interest to explore there. Then next day there is the direct 24/7 coach-bus service direct to the airport
