Oh heavens! In years past, The Open at St. Andrews was accessible and transportation was easy. Not this year!
We put into the lottery and got 7 tickets to the Thursday round. We are staying in Edinburgh and had purchased tickets on ScotRail to get to/from St. Andrews.
Well, we have received emails from both ScotRail and The Open that the trains are likely not to run or run at a reduced rate. StageCoach is only adding a couple of extra busses - I'm sure not nearly enough to accommodate everyone who was planning to take the train.
No rental cars available (for 7) at this late date. My husband is comfortable driving in Scotland, not sure about the others if we were to split up into 2 cars - frankly, haven't checked that option yet. I have not been able (yet) to find a private driver.
I fully understand how spoiled all of this sounds.... Does anyone out there have any ideas. Other than try to sell our tickets and enjoy Edinburgh?
