Transportation Isle of Skye

My wife and I will visit the Highlands the first two weeks in May. We will be traveling by train using the Spirit of Scotland Pass. We will arrive at the Kyle of Lochalsh the afternoon of May 6 and stay in Portree at a B+B. We will depart Portree May 8 for Armadale then take the ferry to Mallaig. We will not have a car while on the Isle of Skye and had planned to use buses to move around the island. I've since read several posts that have resulted in my having serious doubts if this will work.

Does anyone have suggestions on either 1) local tour guides for the Isle of Skye or 2) a private "driver" we could hire while on the Island. (or any other means of hiring transportation for two days). I assume the buses will work to get from Kyle of Lochalsh to Portree and from Portree to Armadale; if this is not correct, please let me know. Thank you.

I would invest in a phone call to your B&B host and ask for advice about a driver. It will be helpful if you map out any specific places on Skye you want to visit, such as Dunvegan Castle or the Black Cuillins fairy pools or the Minginish peninsula.

In addition to transportation while on the Isle of Skye, I was re-confirming bus timetables between Kyle of Lochalsh and Portree (using the Inverness to Portree Bus, and much to my surprise I found there is no bus service on Saturday or Sunday. We arrive at Kyle of Lochalsh Saturday afternoon. We seem to be in a real pickle--no car and no bus service to Portree! My original transportation post is an even lager issue now. Help.

Check Citylink , quick looks gives at least 4 services on the 6th from 12.01 pm onwards.
Looks like there are several day tours from Portree from different companies May thru to Sept.so I would not over worry about getting to "the sights".May is likely an ideal time to be there before the schools and universities get out.
I have been there in late June for several years and it's busy then but not over run.
Can't imagine being there in high season can be much fun.
