Transfers in Scotland

Trying to figure out logistics for a trip this summer.
We'll be taking the train from London to EDI and spending about a week there. Then, we are looking to fly to Paris CDG from EDI, but I'm wondering how long to plan to get to the airport. Will it be problematic as US citizens traveling from Scotland to France? Not sure about customs and so forth.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Get to the airport two hours prior to your flight. Your status as US citizens is irrelevant, you will need to go through immigration in France along with everyone else however you will not be entitled to use the line designated for European citizens.

Customs is different to immigration, you simply walk through if you have nothing to declare.

www.skyscanner.com
Good search site for one-way budget airline flights such as Edinburgh-Paris. Buy early for cheap seats.
If you are flying trans-Atlantic it will be good to use a multi-destination flight search function to see the possibilities of flying into Edinburgh (for instance) and home from Paris, saving the time to retrace your steps and probably costing about the same when everything is added up.

I always err on the side of extra time getting to the airport, but in any case make sure you don't cut it any closer than what your airline recommends. You'll be going through pre-flight security similar to what we have in the USA except the procedures may be a little different (e.g., all passengers have to remove their belts, or plastic 3-1-1 bags are provided for you -- these are just examples, I can't predict what you'll actually encounter). Obviously you will need your US passport as ID for boarding in Scotland, as well as to enter France upon arrival in Paris.

Get there 2 hours before departure,it will take around 30 minutes to get to the airport from the central area.it can be very appear very crowded at. Check in but they do try to push you through quickly.security is usually pretty quick to , I was through the airport last wek and it toook me about 10 minutes to checkin in and then get through security, but do expect it to take at least double that or more.
