Train versus Bus going from Glasgow to Inverness

I notice that there are 15 trains a day that go from Glasgow Central to Inverness. I also see that there are some trains from Queens Street Station. I am somewhat confused. Can you take a train from Glasgow Central and Queens street station and which station should a person use. Additionally, does it make sense to purchase an advance ticket which is somewhat cheaper but if a person experiences a delay then they are out the cost of the advance ticket and it appears that tickets for the train are quite expensive. Would a person be better off taking the bus to inverness. It appears they run more frequently and the cost is quite a bit less and I assume that you can buy the bus tickets at the Buchannan Street Bus Station. Looking for advice/help in choosing my options. Not sure if this makes a difference but will be traveling this route in mid April 2025 and leaving Glasgow on a Saturday. Thanks.

Unsure where you are seeing this, but all trains to Inverness leave from Queen Street.

There are just 5 through trains a day, and another 7 where you change at Perth.

It certainly makes sense to buy an advance ticket. You just have to ensure you are there on time and not miss the train.

The same is true of the bus. Buy your ticket in advance on the Megabus website and you can pay as little as £9.30 + booking fee.

Buy on the day at Buchanan and you will pay £41.10

Buy on the day from Megabus on your phone and you will pay about £25.

But yes the buses are more frequent.

Flixbus also operate the route for as low as £5.48 + booking fee booked well in advance, Even for tomorrow their fares start at £11.98 + bf. Flixbus you have to book on line.
