My husband and I will be traveling in Scotland next month. I have purchased the Britrail Freedom of Scotland pass. I am having difficulty accessing the train schedule - specifically from Inverness to Thurso and Thurso to Aberdeen. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find the schedule online? I found it awhile ago, but for some reason, can't find the correct page now.
Try: http://scotrail.co.uk/plan-your-journey/timetables-connections
For Britain generally: http://www.trainline.co.uk but that is more orienteted to selling tickets, and you already have those.
So, it looks like I can leave Edinburgh at 10:35, arrive in Pitlochry at 12:22, leave Pitlochry at 16:47 and arrive in Inverness at 18:21 (Mon-Sat) - am I reading the schedule correctly? I read that with the pass I purchased, we can't take the train before 9 am. Do I need to also avoid certain afternoon/evening trains? Thanks so much for your help!
Hi Bvrmey,
I am not following your reply. You asked about getting from Inverness to Thurso and from Thurso to Aberdeen and your response mentions Edinburgh and Pitlochry. Very confusing.
Are you going and coming from Orkney on the Ferry? Be sure to leave yourself time to get from Scrabster to Thurso to catch the train. Planning your trip will depend on the Ferry Schedule if you are.
Here are some options for Inverness to Thurso. It is nearly a 4 hour train ride. It's 6.5 hours from Thurso to Aberdeen. BTW did you know that there was an overnight ferry from Kirkwall to Aberdeen which might be interesting assuming that you're going to Orkney.
Another place to post this type of question is on the Transportation forum. There are some great rail buffs there.

Hi Pam. Sorry I was so confusing. I jumped to another part of my trip as I was trying to read the train schedule. The ferry sounds great, but it don't think we'll have time. I knew that the trip from Thurso to Aberdeen was a long one. Fortunately, we have the day to travel before we fly out of Aberdeen the next day. Thanks for your help. I'll take a look at the Transportation Forum.
