I was wondering the best way to get to Edinburgh from York and how long to plan on.

Take the Edinburgh Waverley. 2.5 hours. No transfers.

Take the train from York to Edinburgh.
City centre to city centre.
Depending on when you plan to go, it’s probably cheaper to book a ticket in advance, as in weeks in advance.
Be sure to sit on the right hand side facing forward, for views of the sea nearing Scotland.
