Hello! What is the most scenic train route from Inverness to Glasgow?
Thank you!
Here is a rail map of Scotland. It looks like there is only one route, via Perth, unless you want to take a detour. There are direct (no change) trains from Inverness to Glasgow on this route, and options with a change at Perth.

It is also one of the most scenic routes in the UK. Unless you want to take a bus to Ft William and get the train from there and go on THE most scenic route in Britain!
Thank you! The Highland Main Line from Inverness to Perth on ScotRail - is that the same train to Glasgow? When I select Inverness to Belfast, they have the entire 5 leg journey (12 hours) to select - is this track from Inverness to Perth the Highland Main line and you need to switch - or is it all the same thing? We want to get to Belfast at the end of the day.
Yes, you may need to change at Perth. Also it goes into Glasgow Queen Street, trains down to Stranraer are from Glasgow Central.
I would suggest breaking for the night in Glasgow.
Thanks - very informative!
Peggy:
When are you traveling in Scotland? My wife and I will traveling along the same route (except the opposite direction) in early May. Send me a PM with your date of travel. If you visit before us, perhaps you can give us some pointers, if we visit before you, we'll do the same.
