Train from EDI to Inverness

Is it advisable to buy a train ticket at the station rather than in advance online?

My father and I will be arriving internationally at EDI on a Saturday morning next month (August). With the possibility of flight delays and the time it takes for clearing customs/immigration, we don't know exactly when we arrive at Edinburgh Gateway Station. Is it possible to buy our tickets there and will we be likely to get seats? Thank you for your helpful responses.

We did the opposite two weeks ago (after arriving by coach from Ullapool). No problems.

We bought the tickets at a kiosk and had lunch. We did not get reserved seats, but had no problem finding seats.

If you want reserved seats, buy tickets from a person.

Landed in Edinburgh 17 June 22--tram (tix from kiosk) south toward city, alighted at Scotrail station (tix from kiosk) then to Stirling.

Station person at Stirling warned of rail strike Sunday 19, so, after 1 Stirling night (castle, walk, walk, walk), I purchased a rail ticket to Inverness & traveled in a fairly full, but sparklingly clean, train to Inverness. No problem purchasing tix at point needed; nothing in advance would have worked as I changed plans due to rail strike and my needs.

I always plan a train journey in my European travels (trains in Scotland, England, Ger, Poland, Netherlands, France, Spain, Czech Rep.)
Scotrail didn't disappoint. (I traveled early before meeting a Steves tour of Scotland 19-26 June.)
