Hello, we will be taking this train at the end of September. I am writing to ask a few things - which station is preferable to end at in Glasgow - I see there is a choice between Queens and Central? Are both easy/safe places to catch a taxi to our hotel from? Also, any advice on seats to choose and other tips about this trip would be appreciated.
Both Queen Street and Central are very safe City Centre stations with taxi ranks.
Unless you change trains at Dalmuir to a local train which goes through Central Station Low Level you will end up at Queen Street. It is only 5 to 10 minutes walk between the two stations, so there would be little point to the Dalmuir change in most cases.
Sit on the right hand side of the train for the gorge views on the way up to Tulloch then the Loch and Firth of Clyde views from Arrochar and Tarbet all the way into Glasgow.
From Fort William, and heading to the city centre, I'd choose Queen Street over Central.
First it is the terminus of the line, so no having to worry about getting off at the wrong station.
Secondly, Dalmuir Station, where you'd need to change for Central, is probably only of interest if you are into modern suburban Scottish railway stations.
Thanks so much for both replies, very helpful indeed. Glenda
