At the end of 10 days in the highlands (early September) we will be dropping our rental car in Balloch . Anyone have recommendations for the best public transport into Glasgow? We are staying in the Centre/West End area of Glasgow for a week. Any tips about when to purchase, etc would also be helpful. Thanks for suggestions. Susan
The train is very easy and convenient. It runs every half hour, takes about 45 minutes, and costs GBP 5.30 (that's a walk-up fare, with no advance purchase necessary). It stops at both the Charing Cross and Queen Street stations (and lots of others outside central Glasgow), so you can get out wherever is closest to your hotel.
I'm not sure how close the train station is to where you drop off your car, though. I don't remember any car-rental places immediately near the train station.
