For those who have done the Best of Scotland in 13 Days tour, about when were you done in Edinburgh for the afternoon after the castle tour? Thinking of booking "The Real Mary Kings Close" tour and want to know the best time. Also comment on that tour if you've done it and think it's a good idea.
I stayed longer at the castle than most people on the tour so I could see the one o’clock gun. If your guide takes you to the Castle first thing in the morning like ours did, you would be done by then. I didn’t take the King’s Close tour so I can’t help you there.
Agreed that if the guide starts you off early at the castle then you will definitely have enough time for the Real Mary Kings Close (RMKC) tour. IMHO, Stirling Castle is much more interesting and I spent more time there than at the castle in Edinburgh.
I really enjoyed the RMKC tour. Our guide made the tour exceptionally enjoyable with his humor. It was fascinating to learn of life in Edinburgh and of Mary King and her friends. There are a few sort of gruesome parts to the tour, but our guide made it fun.
Linda, my understanding is the RMKC tour has to be booked in advance, do you think if I book it for 2pm that would work? Or were you able to book it the same day?
Ron, I did book my tour ahead of time. I can’t remember what time of year you are going on the RS Tour but I suggest you try a dummy booking for a week from now on the day you expect to be at the castle to see the availability of timed slots on that particular day. (i.e., Friday afternoon @ 2 pm, April 24).
2 or 3 pm would probably work as far as timing IF the castle tour starts early. You could have a short lunch and then check in for your RMKC tour.
Edited to add: I really enjoyed breakfast at Edinburgh Cafe, which is very near the RMKC entrance. Pretty sure they also serve lunch.
