Tour of Skye

We want to do a one day tour of the Isle of Skye, either small group or private driver. Any suggestions?

Hi-we drove ourselves around Skye in a rental car, but if you’re having someone else do the driving (not necessarily a bad idea at all), are you planning on starting in Portree or some other place? Have you picked a location to stay or meet your driver/tour, or would booking someone help decide that for you?

We can’t rent a car, traveling around England and Scotland by train and ferry. We are staying in Portree and have one half day and one whole day to see the highlights of Skye.

Portree is the biggest settlement on the Island, so it’s a good place to find a qualified tour guide. Have you consulted Rick Steves’ current book for any recommendations? Maybe that’s what you’re doing by posting your Mayotte here. We didn’t use a hired guide, following Rick’s booI instead, but you should be able to ring a tour that will pick you up in Portree.

When we have used a guide service, we prefer private guides, or at least small group tours, to bigger tours with bigger groups. Have a great time!

Check the one-day Skye tour offered by this company

We took a 4 day tour from Edinburgh offered by its partner company (Heartland) and it included 2 nights in Portree. Our itinerary on Skye looked very similar to this. I felt we got to see quite a lot. Some of the stops were just photo ops, but at other stops (like the lighthouse), we had time to explore at a leisurely pace.

You could consider Skye Jeep Tours. They have both a modern Jeep and a World War 2 one! Great hosts and excellent knowledge of the island. They will tailor the tour to your requirements.
