To Falkland from Edinburgh

I'll be in Edinburgh for 3 days next month. Would like to visit the town of Falkland, Falkland Castle and possibly East Wemyss (McDuff Cemetery/castle ruins). Our Scottish ancestors were from these areas. Without a car, is this doable as a day trip ? Bus? Train?

I'm aware a bus goes to Falkland but not sure if going to East Wemyss is feasible or is even worth the visit. Thanks very much for your advice.

It is tricky as it's not on the train route. But I did find this day tour out of Edinburgh. You might actually contact the TI in Edinburgh and ask for their advice.

If you are a fan of the "Outlander" series of books or TV show then you will see that Falkland is the town where one of the scenes was filmed in the opening of the show. It is a very picturesque little town, and the castle is worth visiting. On an additional note when I was walking around there this past May I came across a park bench in a small park and the plaque on it said it was dedicated to Johnny Cash, as his ancestors were from Falkland and he had performed there in the past - who knew.

Another suggestion to visit is the Falkirk Wheel in Falkirk which is a very interesting thing to see, and I believe it is not too hard to get there from Edinburgh.

Thanks very much for the scoop. I'm a huge Outlander fan - of the books and the show! I'll be in Scotland soon for a few days, then on to Dublin for the Best of Ireland tour.
