I'm from the US, but I grew up in northern New Hampshire where narrow dirt roads and the need to pull into ditches/pulloffs to let people pass was not uncommon. So I had some familiarity with the rules for driving single-track roads. But, in talking with locals at several points (including the Hertz office) in Scotland, the biggest misunderstanding that visiting drivers (mostly Americans) have is understanding the road rules for using single track roads.
So save yourself some hassles this summer (and avoid dirty looks from locals), you may want review the rules before you go.
